I am a migrant artist who made the UK my home and have been developing my choreographic work here. I am a global citizen, a 'netizen'...
I think with my body, I read the world as movement and vibration.
My work originates from the experience of living in an in-between state. In-between continents, mainly Asia and Europe; in-between modern and traditional, abstract and narrative, exotic and conventional; and in-between the notions of colour and ethnicity, evoking critical theorist Homi K Bhabha's notions of 'in-between' space.
Since moving to London in 2003, I have collaborated with many artists, including Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Fabulous Beasts Dance Theatre, Akram Khan Dance Company, Sasha Waltz and Guests.
I am currently working with physical theatre company Gecko, touring in their production 'Wedding', as well as in their new National Theatre production, 'Kin'. I am also working with Vedanza of Luxembourg and the Broken Spectacle Theatre Company in the UK.
As a choreographer, I have created several choreographic works in and outside the UK, including Fragments for the Spitfire Company in the Czech Republic, Stillness Is Monochrome? performed at the prestigious Luftschloss Cobenzl Castle in Vienna, and Fluid Boundaries for the Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company.
I enjoy a variety of roles in the field of contemporary dance. I was a dramaturg and mentor for the ‘out of the system’ programme, part of the Dance Umbrella Festival 2019 in London and appeared in the dance adaptation of the film A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, directed by Jacqui Morris and choreographed by Russel Maliphant.
I have taught masterclasses and intensives for several dance companies and educational institutions, including for disabled and behaviourally challenged groups.
Most recently, I have completed an Arts Council England funded research project for a new production entitled The Body Recall.
